Game Awards 2024 - My Votes

i liked astro bot ok

Game of the Year:

I voted for Astro Bot. Balatro is really great but it's no GOTY, Wukong is also good but it's a bit rough around the edges and the voice acting is stilted in English and a little bit in Chinese which took me out of the experience, Shadow of the Erdtree is literally DLC, FF7 Rebirth was probably my second contender but Astro Bot is literally flawless and with as big of a game as FF7 Rebirth is, it's bound to have some smaller issues.

Best Game Direction:

I voted again, for Astro Bot. Balatro was actually my #2 here as it executes on its premise perfectly, but frankly Astro Bot tackled a bigger genre and achieved with the same level of excellence. The rest are well directed but suffer from smaller issues due to their larger nature.

Best Narrative:

I voted for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Infinite Wealth is great but the ichiban part of the game was really just filler to get back to doing Kiryu stuff whilst still being able to call it a ichiban game. I haven't played Metaphor, so if it's literally the best narrative I wouldn't know. Same for Hellblade 2 and Silent Hill 2.

Best Art Direction:

I voted for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. All the games are beautiful but Elden Ring has the most grandiose beautiful complex scenes, Everything looks like it could be a watercolor painting.

Best Ongoing:

I voted for Helldivers 2. Earlier this year when this game launched the pure excitement and hype in the air was electric and lasted longer than anyone ever thought it would. It's the first game since like GTA 5 to hold that amount of excitement for as long as it did (at least from my perspective). Destiny 2 had a great expansion but all the other controversy around it deflates it quite a lot. Diablo 4 is Diablo 4. I frankly don't know much about what's going on with FF16 and Fortnite is great but frankly it's won enough of these awards they prob just get them mailed at this point.

Best Community Support:

I voted for No Man's Sky. With the continuous major updates (for example the massive Worlds Part 1) update earlier this year alongside transparency with the community, They've earned my vote. Helldivers 2 was my #2 but the PSN scandal loses it from winning.

Best Indie:

Balatro, need I say more?

Best VR/AR:

I voted for Batman: Arkham Shadow. By far one of the best VR games that came from a flatscreen franchise while still keeping original/similar gameplay and feel. Arizona Sunshine Remake is a remake, Asgard's Wrath 2 was alright, but I feel it was held back by the quest platform's limitations. Metal Hellsinger VR looks cool, I haven't tried it. Metro Awakening is mid.

Best Action Game:

I voted for Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2. I personally just really loved the gameplay loop here, all the other games strive in their other genres.

Best Fighting:

I voted for Tekken 8, this one was really tough. I am absolutely over the moon in love with Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero; HOWEVER Sparking Zero has more issues then Tekken 8 does and launched with less content than Tekken 8 did. The rest are cool but T8 vs Sparking Zero is the real battle here.

Best Adaptation:

#ARCANESWEEP. I voted for Arcane, Fallout's great but Arcane is generational. The rest are mid.

That's all folks, I did vote for all of them but these are the major categories that I care about.
