Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal: Specs, New Joycon, Mario Kart 9?

Safe, but a good move.

Earlier today the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed in a short 2minute video released on Nintendo of America's youtube channel. Watch it here:

Hardware Details Announced or Shown:

8.0~ inch screen
2 USB-C ports
Cartridge Slot that supports NS2 exclusives and most NS1 games
3.5mm headphone jack

Magnetic Joycons
* Second Square Action Button on the Right Joycon
* Potential Mouse-Like functionality when layed on the side
* Larger to accomodate the NS2's larger footprint

My Thoughts:

Promising, but until we can get some confirmed specs or at least resolution targets for the NS2 i'll have to wait on any real judgement. Hopefully they have fixed the joycon drift issues with these magnetic joycons. As for the magnetic part of the joycons, it's a good alternative to the shitty rails the NS1 used. My V1 joycons have all but completely lost their grip and just slide out with the least amount of force.

Mario Kart 9?

During the short video, a clearly new Mario Kart game was shown off (evident from the character and kart models alongside the new track). The art-style seems a little more chibi, similar to Super Mario Wonder's. This seems pretty in line with what seems like a shift away from the New Super Mario Bros theme that they've had for the last almost two decades.

It also seemed like at the end they showed off much bigger tracks with more players on screen than in MK8D. According to the spots on the ground apparently 24 players.

I do not think this console will compete at all with current-gen hardware, not even with their own in-house DLSS alternative. It's Nintendo, that's not their thing, if anything it's gonna be a lot more powerful; But still limited on an ARM APU. Probably something from NVIDIA like they had with the Tegra in the NS1.

I frankly hate talking about leaks as half the time it's either right but so what we might as well wait to get excited closer to launch with real info, or wrong and just bringing our hopes up for nothing. (I paid WAY too much attention to switch pro leaks back when the OLED switch was coming out.)

Most importantly, as mentioned in the hardware details, the Switch 2 will be compatible with most Nintendo Switch 1 games alongside having its own exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 games. (I am assuming the NS2 will support all but very specific NS1 games like 1-2 switch and the fitness hula-hoop thing.)

Lastly, they announced they will be holding a direct on April 2nd, 2024 fully announcing the rest of the info about the NS2.
